Clear Diagnostics, Cleaner Air

At RADray, we are revolutionising diagnostic care in the community. We recognise that to secure a healthy future for our patients, we must also actively protect the environment we share. Our pledge aligns with the NHS Net Zero ambition and the drive for cleaner air in the city-regions we serve, starting with Greater Manchester.

Our Core Commitment: Low-Carbon Mobile Care

Our operating model is inherently designed to reduce carbon emissions by shifting care away from high-travel, centralised settings (hospitals) and into the community. Our commitment is built on three pillars:

1. Zero-Emission Transport (Scope 1 & 2 Emissions)

Transportation is the largest contributor to our direct carbon footprint. We are tackling this head-on:

  • 100% EV Fleet: We operate a dedicated fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) for all X-ray home visits and GP surgery appointments. This eliminates tailpipe emissions, directly reducing local air pollution and supporting regional clean air initiatives, particularly in dense urban areas like Greater Manchester.

  • Optimised Logistics: We use scheduling and routing software to ensure the most efficient, low-mileage routes possible. This maximises our clinical efficiency while minimising energy consumption per patient visit.

  • Decentralised Service: By bringing the X-ray to the patient's home, we negate the need for patients, carers, and hospital transport services to make often complex, multiple journeys. This creates a measurable system-wide reduction in transport emissions.

2. Digital & Lean Operations

We embrace technology to reduce waste and increase the efficiency of our diagnostic process:

  • Digital Radiography (DR): Our advanced X-ray units use digital technology exclusively. This ensures a streamlined, paper-free, and resource-efficient diagnostic process.

  • Paperless Processes: All patient referrals, reports, and image transfers are handled digitally, ensuring a fully paper-free administrative pathway.

  • Equipment Management: We are committed to a responsible and sustainable lifecycle for all our specialist mobile X-ray equipment. We prioritise maintenance and repair to extend asset life, ensuring replacement only when necessary.

3. Strategic Partnership for Net Zero

We view our service as a direct enabler for the wider health system's sustainability goals:

  • Supporting Green Plans: We partner with Healthcare Providers to offer a community-based diagnostic solution that helps them achieve their local sustainability and care closer to home targets.

  • Avoided Hospital Activity: By diagnosing and managing suitable cases outside of acute settings, we contribute to relieving pressure on hospitals, which typically have a larger carbon and energy footprint.

"RADray is built on the principle that the most sustainable care is the care delivered in the right care, at the right time, in the right place. Our commitment to electric transport and digital efficiency ensures we protect our community's health and their environment."

Our Pledge for Continuous Improvement

RADray pledges to regularly review our operations and seek innovative solutions that further reduce our environmental impact, including:

  • Exploring the use of sustainable materials in consumables where clinically appropriate.

  • Continually assessing our supply chain partners for their environmental credentials.

We are dedicated to building a greener, healthier future for all Healthcare Providers and the people of Greater Manchester.
