Clear Diagnostics, Cleaner Air

At RADRay, we believe that securing a healthy future for patients requires active protection of the environment. Our operational model is built to support the NHS Net Zero ambition, specifically targeting the reduction of air pollution and carbon emissions within the communities we serve across the Northwest of England.

Our Core Commitment: Low-Carbon Mobile Care

Our operating model is inherently designed to reduce carbon emissions by shifting care away from high-travel, centralised settings (hospitals) and into the community. Our commitment is built on three pillars:

Pillar 1: Low-carbon mobile care

Our service is inherently designed to decouple diagnostics from high-travel hospital settings. By shifting care into the community, we achieve a measurable reduction in healthcare-related transit.

  • 100% EV Fleet: We operate a dedicated fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) for all community appointments. This eliminates tailpipe emissions and directly supports regional clean air initiatives, such as the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan.

  • Logistical optimisation: We utilise advanced routing software to ensure the lowest possible mileage per patient visit, maximising clinical output while minimising energy consumption.

  • System-wide emission reduction: By bringing the x-ray to the patient, we remove the need for patients, carers, and non-emergency transport services to make multiple, carbon-intensive journeys to acute hospital sites.

Pillar 2: Digital and resource-efficient operations

We leverage technology to eliminate physical waste and streamline the diagnostic pathway.

  • Digital Radiography (DR): Our advanced imaging units use digital technology exclusively, ensuring a paper-free and resource-efficient diagnostic process.

  • Paperless administrative pathway: From referral to final report, our entire clinical workflow is digital, removing the environmental cost of paper-based records and physical film.

  • Asset lifecycle management: We prioritise the maintenance and sustainable lifecycle of our equipment, ensuring that assets are repaired and optimised to prevent unnecessary electronic waste.

Pillar 3: Strategic partnership for sustainability

RADRay acts as a direct enabler for the sustainability targets of Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and NHS Trusts.

  • Supporting NHS Green Plans: We offer a community-based solution that helps healthcare providers meet their local "Care Closer to Home" and sustainability targets.

  • Avoided acute activity: By managing diagnostic events outside of hospital estates, we help reduce the energy and carbon overhead typically associated with acute hospital departments.

  • Recognised standards: Our commitment to quality and environmental management is backed by our alignment with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, providing commissioners with certainty regarding our operational rigour.

Our Pledge for Continuous Improvement

RADray pledges to regularly review our operations and seek innovative solutions that further reduce our environmental impact, including:

  • Exploring the use of sustainable materials in consumables where clinically appropriate.

  • Continually assessing our supply chain partners for their environmental credentials.

We are dedicated to building a greener, healthier future for all Healthcare Providers and the people in the Northwest.
